The Armour of God is also the Spoil

I was reading some quality Joseph Prince this morning, and he wrote on 2 Chronicles 20:15: “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

His thought for the day was:God wants us to stand still and see Jesus, our salvation, fight for us.

“You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord..” Chronicles 20:17

As I read this, I thought about the passage in Ephesians on the Armour of God, and our ‘struggle against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms’. When I reread the passage that I have read countless times before, I had to laugh.

What does Paul instruct us to do? Be strong in the LORD and in HIS mighty power, and after we have done everything to stand with the belt of TRUTH, the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS, feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the GOSPEL OF PEACE, the shield of FAITH, the helmet of SALVATION, and the sword of the SPIRIT, which is the WORD of God.

And it hit me….our only act, the ‘everything before standing’ we’ve been instructed by Paul to do, is to put on the gifts already won by Jesus and freely given to us. Our pieces of armour are the victory spoils of a battle long finished: The perfect works of the cross!

We, as believers, have the happy privilege of standing in the eyeline of a defeated enemy, wearing the spoils of a war we didn’t fight, with our salvation- a crown which God has placed on our heads.

God is just plain awesome!

it’s a sad day when we have to put ourselves down to make God look good

Phil Drysdale: What is righteousness?

phildrysdale:

One of the biggest problems the world faces, especially the believer, is that it is possible to attain a standard of righteousness outside of the finished works of the cross.

You see according to the word of God we have two types of righteousness that are attainable, we have the righteousness…
